A real adventure tour in Szeklerland takes seven days, including transfer to and from the campsite, which we also provide with our comfortable minibuses.

The price of a one-week adventure tour in Szeklerland includes return transfers, accommodation in our forest chalets in a fabulous environment, three meals a day, organised daily activities and guided tours:

High season (14 June - 30 August)

During this period, tours are especially popular, so places fill up quickly.

Prices:

  • 550 euros/person for groups of 8 people
  • 565 euros/person for groups of 6-7 people
  • 580 euros/person for groups of 1-5 people

Low and off-season (all other tours of the year, including winter tours):

  • 489 euros/person for groups of 8 people
  • 509 euros/person for groups of 6-7 people
  • 529 euros/person for groups of 1-5 people

Day 1. Trip to Szeklerland

On Sunday morning we will pick you up from any part of Hungary and bring you to Szeklerland. When we cross into Transylvania, the driver will stop for lunch at Királyhágo, where the passengers will have the opportunity to have lunch.

When you arrive in the evening, a hot dinner and brandy will be waiting for you. After dinner, everyone can settle into their accommodation.

Day 2. Naskalat

Breakfast will be at 9am on Monday morning. After breakfast, we will have a briefing, which means we will talk about the week and start the off-road tours.

Naskalat peak is the second highest point (1550m) of the Csíki mountains, where the breakout of the 32nd border fighters took place in August 1944.

From the top of Naskalat there is a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside, the villages of Csík and the streams of Gyimes. Of course, it takes a few hours of off-road driving to get to the inaccessible Naskalat peak, but that's the uniqueness of our service, to take you to places that are difficult to reach but also unmissable. In the Naskalat Mountains, we reach half of our daily trek, so we'll have a forest feast next to the picturesque scenery. Leaving the Naskalat Mountains, we pass through the Devil's Pass on our way to the top of the Ecsém, from where we head home. Through the famous "Bükkfásmart" we slowly reach the villages.

The "Naskalat trek" is one of our longest mountain treks, which has a history written all over it, along with the thrilling terrain and the beauty of the scenic landscape. During our trip we will stop at several places so that our guests can enjoy the beauty of the Transylvanian landscape.

In the evening we arrive back at the hotel, where we are welcomed with pálinka and a Szekler feast.

Day 3. Kovácspéter

Kovácspéter is one of the tourist attractions of the Gyergyói hills, a real farm village. In 1956 the village had 100 inhabitants, in 1992 15, and in 2002 8. The chapel, built in 1977, is the site of an annual feast on 22 August, attended by hundreds of pilgrims.

The chapel is located at an altitude of almost 1400 metres, so it offers a stunning view of the mountains of Szeklerland (Fekete hagymás, Nagyhagymás, Egyes-stone, Ecsém, Pongrác, Görgényi Hills, Harghita Mountains). But the route approaching Kovpets is also beautiful, with a long stretch on the Balán Mountains, with a picturesque view of the Hagymás Mountains and the town of Balánbánya below.

In Kovácspéter we visit the old Csángó uncle Béla, who is waiting for us with a hot lunch and tells us what it was like to grow up in the mountains and live a life far away from civilisation. After lunch, we visit the source of the Olt River and set off on a thrilling drive home, taking care of unforgettable off-road experiences.

Day 4. Fekete-rez

Fekete-rez (1538m) is one of the mountains of the Gyergyói Hills, which is special because the Mures River has its source here. On the way to Fekete-rez, we stop at Gréces-top, Marosfő and a few other special places.

Halfway to the summit of Fekete-rez, at 1350 m, we visit the source of the Maros. We tell the legend of the river and how it flows into the Tisza at Szeged, quench our thirst with its cool waters, then continue towards the summit. From the summit of Fekete-rez you have a breathtaking view of the whole of Felcsík and Gyergyó. All the villages lie at our feet, you can see all the way to Csíkszereda.

On the rooftop we will share with you some interesting facts about the villages and mountains ahead, then we will drink a toast to a better future under the shelter of the mighty mountains and head back home. Of course, we will be accompanied by beautiful views all the way, to make your experience unforgettable.

Day 5. Madarasi-Hargita

The Madarasi-Hargita is the highest peak in Szeklerland (1801 m). From the top you can see the mountains of the previous hikes, the Fogarasi hills forming the border of Transylvania.

This hike is different from the previous ones in a few ways, for example, the off-road driving is complemented by about half an hour's hike to the summit. On the Harghita of Madaras, we have to share the beauty of the scenic landscape with others, as it is relatively easy to reach, making it the most visited peak in Harghita.

Of course, we will not approach it easily, as we will be going off the beaten track, to make the experience of the terrain more impressive. So we will climb a few mountains until we reach the Madarasi Harghita. Of course, here we will have a mountain feast, crowning the day's experience with Szekler beer and pálinka, under the shelter of the beautiful Szökő waterfall, which is at an altitude of almost 1600 metres.

Day 6. Horse carriage riding

On our last day of the tour, in the morning, we will take a jeep around the village and the mountains where we spent most of our childhood.

Then we hop on a horse-drawn carriage and ride through the villages. By horse-drawn carriage we visit the monuments in the area and go to a ceramics workshop. We will see how Szeklerland ceramic pots are made.

In the evening, after dark, we start the farewell party with a bonfire several metres high. The rest of the farewell evening will be a surprise.

Day 7. Travelling home to Hungary

Breakfast is at 7am on Saturday morning as our guests have a long journey back to Hungary. After breakfast we say goodbye, you take your seats in the minibus and head home. If you wish, the driver will of course stop again at Királyhágo for lunch and you will be home by late afternoon or evening (it depends on where in Hungary you are going).

Hiking Tours

Egyes-stone, Nagyhagymás, Öcsém peak (Hagymás Mountains)

Looking out of the window of the forest chalet at the lodge, in the distance to the north is a huge range of rocks, the Hagymás Mountains. On the left is the second highest peak in Szeklerland, the Nagyhagymás , on the right the Öcsém peak, and in the middle, like a crown on a jewel, the Egyes-stone. These monumental rock formations are part of one of the most beautiful National Parks in Transylvania, the Békás-strait-Nagyhagymás National Park. Interestingly, the Great Rock in the Budapest Zoo is modelled on the Transylvanian rock of One. Indeed, Károly Kós used the rocky outcrop in the Hagymás Mountains as a model for the design of the Great Rock, which was inaugurated in 1912. The Egyes Stone is one of the seven wonders of Transylvania.

Route: Balánbánya-Szép patak-Nyíres-sarok-Egyeskő shelter Distance: 4 km Elevation: 639 m (to the refuge) The Egyes Stone refuge lies at an altitude of 1504 metres above sea level, and the Egyes Stone at 1608 metres.

From the Egyes stone shelter (1504m) you can reach the 1792m summit of the Nagyhagymás, which is about 2 hours hike. Or to either the Öcsém peak or the Pongrác peak. If you go out to the Egyes Stone, it is worth staying one night in the refuge and from there you can hike for another day in the Hagymás Mountains.

The hike is mostly accessible all year round.

Gyilkos-stone

The Gyilkos stone rises above the Red lake, to the east of it and about 700 m away - its highest point is on a flat part, where a meta tree in the field marks the 1408 m height. There are two main viewpoints on the western rocky ridge of Gyilkos stone, the western viewpoint at 1378 m and the north-western viewpoint, where one of the panoramic cabins is located.

Start from the parking lot near the boat dock on Red Lake, next to the artificial road 12/C and follow the blue dot sign. After a few minutes, you will reach the last resort of Gyilkostó on this line. The slope becomes increasingly steep, climbing up a steep climb through woods to the grim reapers' huts in the clearing below the Gyilkos rock.

Békás-strait, Little-Cohárd

Who wouldn't know the classic image of the Little Cohárd limestone cliff rising like a magnificent rocky outcrop above the Red Lake.

At first sight, climbing it without climbing gear seems almost impossible. Yet from the other side of the block, a narrow, rocky and steep forest hiking trail leads to the top. Unless you choose one of the famous rock climbing routes.

Whichever way you arrive, it's worth the effort and the climb up from the crowds below. From the dizzying height of the summit plateau of the Little Cohard, you get a magnificent view of the cliff-covered ridges of the Hagymás Mountains towering above the Red Lake.

Perhaps the most spectacular feature here is the rock and the jagged corner of the Gyilkos Stone, which gave rise to the lake.

Istenszéke (God's Chair) (Kelemen Mountains)

"There stands the seat of God high above the Maros. On one side is the many-branched Galonya, on the other the Bistra stream, and behind it the peaks of the Kelemen. Of course, the world there today is not as it was when God sat down to rest among the mountains."

Albert Wass: The witch from Funtinelli

Moving up the valley of the Maros from Szászrégen towards Déda, you can see a spectacular trapezoidal rocky outcrop, first along the road and then, as you approach, above the surrounding hills in the foothills of the Kelemen hills. The best-known destination in the most extensive volcanic mountain range of the Eastern Carpathians and the entire Maros Valley region is the striking, flat-topped peak of the Kelemen Mountains in the south-western part of the Kelemen Mountains, the God's Mountain (1381 m). Its rocky cliffs offer a magnificent view of the Maros river and the Kelemen and Görgényi hills, and the place of particular beauty has inspired many writers and poets, including such eminent figures as Albert Wass and Lajos Áprily.

Route: Dédabistra - Bear peak (ridge road) - Istenszéke - Hidas-patak valley - Bisztra valley Difficulty: moderately difficult Distance: 14 km Length: 8-9 hours Altitude Difference: +1050 m / - 870 m

Borderhunter 32 memorial hike (Csíki Mountains)

80 years ago, in August 1944, the Soviet Red Army arrived at the border of our country. The first to take up the fight were the Szekler border fighters, trying the impossible against the Russian cylinder. It is our proud duty to remember the heroic actions of our soldiers!

Starting from Cold valley, we head uphill on the Kovácspatak. The first part of the hike is just the more strenuous, as the trail climbs steeply uphill to the Kondra cross. After the cross, it's mostly downhill until Csíkszentdomokos. The hike is nearly 20 km long and the difficulty level is easy.

Pogány Mountain, Szép Mountain (Csíki Mountains)

Pogány Mountain and its surroundings offer interesting sights at any time of the year. Starting from the Gyimesi Pass, you can easily reach the 1351-metre summit of Pogány Hill in less than an hour. The Pogány Mountain is located in the middle of the Csíki snowfields, from where the Chapel of the Holy Spirit in Szép-havas is about an hour and a half's walk. From there we descend towards Csíkszépvíz, passing the memorial of St. László and the Csíkszépvíz Lookout.

Gyimesi pass, Szellő peak (Csíki Mountains)

The highest peak of the central part of the Csíki Mountains, the Szellő peak, marked by the old meta-tree and the St. László headstone. From here, you can see the whole of Csík and the mountains surrounding the basin.

From the Gyimesi Pass, we head southeast towards the Szellő peak. It is a beautiful scenic hike, because we are on a mountain ridge all the way. Along the way, you will have a stunning view of the villages of Felcsík, the Csángó farms and the dam of Szépvíz. Although the route is relatively long, because Szellő peak is more than ten kilometres, it is not strenuous because there are no major differences in level. Except for the last few hundred metres, where you have to climb to the top of Szellő peak, which is almost 1500 metres high.

Winter Trips

4th of January 2026 - 1st of March 2026

A real adventure tour in Szeklerland takes seven days, of course including transfer to and from the campsite, which we also provide with our comfortable minibuses.

The price includes a one-week winter adventure tour with return transfers, accommodation in our forest chalets, fabulous surroundings, three meals a day, organised daily activities and guided tours:

489 euros/person for groups of 8 people

509 euros/person for groups of 6-7 people

529 euros/person for groups of 1-5 people

Accommodation in our four-person cottages costs an extra €50 per person per week!

During the winter tours you can try dog sledding or even snowmobiling, which will incur some extra costs.

Day 1. Trip to Szeklerland

On Sunday morning we will pick you up from any part of Hungary and bring you to Szeklerland. When we cross into Transylvania, the driver will stop for lunch at Királyhágo, where the passengers will have the opportunity to have lunch. When they arrive at their accommodation in the evening, a hot dinner and pálinka are waiting for them. After dinner, everyone can settle into their accommodation.

Day 2. Sledging

Breakfast will be at 9am on Monday morning. After breakfast, we will have a briefing, which means we will talk about the week and start the winter adventure tours. Our first trip will be to the Gyergyói snowfields, where we will open the week in a rather adventurous way, as we will be sledging, although not in the usual way.

The familiar off-road vehicles from summer tours are chained up for the winter and a huge purpose-built sledge is hooked up to them, with a tow bar of course to make it safe. You take your place on the sled and the adventure begins. For lunch, we will warm up in a mountain hut of a mountain tribe, at an altitude of almost 1300 metres in the snowy mountains of Gheorgheni. He will welcome us with a special local feast. After lunch the adventure continues! Each evening you can relax in the wooden Parajd salt water bath tub and sauna.

Day 3. Madarasi Hargita

The Madarasi Hargita is the Holy Mountain of the Szekler people and a true pilgrimage destination. Anyone who ever travels to Szeklerland must visit it. Hargita in winter is amazing, it has the largest snow cover in Szeklerland. Nowadays, when the winters are getting weaker, it is not uncommon to find 2-3 meters of snow cover on the Hargita of Madaras. The peak takes your breath away. At 1,800 metres, the snow, cold and constant winds make the hundreds of kopja trees seem to come to life, taking the form of people. It is a sight that cannot be described, it must be seen!

Day 4. Horse-drawn sleigh ride

Once upon a time, not so long ago, winter transport in Szeklerland was by horse-drawn sleigh. I remember that 15-20 years ago, it was commonplace for people to go to the forest for wood by horse-drawn sleigh when winter came. Nowadays it is a holiday when the horses are caught in front of the sleigh. We would love to share this feeling with our guests, to go to the forest with a horse-drawn sleigh, not for wood, of course, but just for a hike, but the point is almost the same: to revive this old feeling of life.

Day 5. Culture and baking "kürtös" chimney cakes

In the morning we will visit some monuments in the village and its surroundings, such as: the Bone Tower in Csíkszenttamás, the St. Anne's Chapel or even the Castle Church in Csíkkarcfalva. Afterwards, we will visit a ceramics workshop where our guests can admire how Korondi ceramics vessels are made and get detailed information from a master craftsman with decades of experience. The rest of the day and evening is spent relaxing, baking "kürtös" chimney cakes, taking a sauna and a hot tub.

In the afternoon, if you want, you can try your hand at baking chimney cakes. The "Kürtöskalács" chimney cake has a long tradition in Szeklerland and since one of our team members is a master pastry chef, we will show you how to make a real Szekler chimney cake.

After baking the chimney cake, there is also the opportunity to relax. The Szekler man also gives way to relax. We filled our 8-person wooden bath tub with spring water from St. Anne's Feredő and mixed the spring water with Parajd salt. The water in the wooden bath is kept at +35 - +40 degrees Celsius, even if the temperature outside is -30 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, we offer our guests mulled wine and pálinka, and from the outdoor bathing pool they can enjoy the stunning views of the valley below and the Hagymás Mountains opposite.

Day 6. Pig slaughter and bread baking

The winter pig slaughter has always been a holiday in Hungarian culture, and Szeklerland is no exception. In the morning we start with the pálinka, then the work begins! The pigs are processed in a completely traditional way (straw is used to scorch them, the intestines are cleaned, etc.), and of course musicians provide a good atmosphere, because a real pig slaughter is not only work but also fun.

While the pig is being cooked, the fire in the oven is crackling. In the morning, the bread dough is ready to rise, the oven is heated, and the homemade bread baking can begin, just like we learned from our grandmothers.

Day 7. Travelling home to Hungary

On Saturday morning, breakfast is at 7 am, as our guests have a long journey back to Hungary ahead of them. After breakfast, we say goodbye, you take your seats in the minibus and head home. If you wish, the driver will of course stop again at Királyhágo for lunch and you will be home by late afternoon or evening (it depends on where in Hungary you are going).
